MFT Sketch #237 AND Summer School!

photoMFT Sketch Challenge #237 on My Favorite Things Challenge & Inspiration is starting today. In July here, we have Kalyn Kepner with us! Whoot!

Here is this week’s sketch:
MFT_WSC_237:This is my card for the week:

hawkins_jill_make a wish_wmI cannot get enough Abstraction! 🙂 Now it is in stamp and stencil form! LOVE.

hawkins_jill_make a wish_00_wmI used watercolors to paint the whole panel. It probably would have gone faster if I had done a couple triangles at once with the same color. But no. Did one. At. A. Time. It isn’t perfect, but I don’t think watercolor should be? I like things crisp, so this was good to do something different.

Bonus: Today is the 3rd day of MFT Summer School!

PrintBe sure to head over to the MFT Blog to read the lesson and link up to the other cards the MFT design team made. 🙂

Today is all about: Primary! Primary colors: Red, Yellow and Blue.

Print I took a little tweek on the red. 🙂

Here is my card:

MFT Summer School: Complementary

PrintDay TWO of fun on the MFT Blog! MFT Summer School: Session Two! Sharpen your pencils! 🙂

Today’s lesson:PrintComplementary sometimes just happens, but it is a quick way to pick your colors if you get stuck. They are opposite colors on the color wheel…such as yellow/purple, orange/blue, red/green… You’ll definitely want to hop over to the MFT Blog to see what Susan wrote up for today’s lesson. That’s where the real schooling is 😉

There is also a great download for your school notebook 😉

Here’s my card:

hawkins_jill_you're the coolest_wmThis was a very happy accident. I wasn’t making this card! I was going to edge a piece of card stock with this Notebook Edge die:

As I did, I got this negative piece and thought it was TOO fun to just leave in the scrap pile…so these little strips happened instead. Hence this card.

hawkins_jill_you're the coolest__00_wmThis reminds me so much of that pom-pom fringe that was used to often in the 70’s/80’s? I remember pink curtains somewhere in my world that had that pom-pom fringe. Awesome. 🙂 Stretching those supplies! Hooray! 🙂

Hope you can check out all the surely fun projects today too 🙂 The My Favorite Things blog is where to hop to!

MFT Summer School: Gallon/Quart/Pint

PrintToday starts another fun week on the MFT Blog! MFT Summer School: Session TWO! Oh yes! 🙂

Today’s lesson:

PrintThe ol’ Gallon/Quart/Pint trick…You use a lot of one color, a little of the next, and even less of the next. Such fun! I could do these little lessons all day. I think I always say that, but it’s true! 🙂

Anywho, on with my card:

hawkins_jill_miss you_wmMy card here sort of takes the gallon to the extreme and the others to the brink, but you get the picture. I have been trying to stamp more, and kept this one simple. I tend to die cut, so I like to be sure I mix it up here and there 🙂 Watercolor: The untamed medium.

You’ll definitely want to hop over to the MFT Blog to see everything that Susan wrote up today. That’s where the real schooling comes in 😉

hawkins_jill_miss you_00_wmHope you can check out all the surely fun projects. I can’t wait!! 🙂 The My Favorite Things blog is sure to have lots of good stuff this week.

Sweet Sunday Sketch: #277

Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge!! #277 fires up today! 🙂

Here’s this week’s sketch:

Here is my card for the week:

hawkins_jill_happy birthday_+wmI used MFT’s new Party Patterns stamp set for this square panel. I think those random shapes and squiggles are the best! So versatile! 🙂 I like that a lot. AND I also quite enjoy the other stamp set and background I used. The Birthday Wishes & Balloons (font! LOVE!) and the Balloon Strings background. When I saw that background, I knew it had to come live with me 😉

hawkins_jill_happy birthday_00_wmP.S. I’m a MISTI supporter. That tool really is incredible and lets me use stamps in ways I would not normally be able to… like this card. Stamping on an inlaid panel could yield even wackier results if I couldn’t double stamp them. It. Is. Awesome.

My card was made with supplies from My Favorite Things:

You can find all the past sketches HERE.

The Sweet Sunday Sketch team: Barbara Anders, Dana White, Jodi Collins, Karen Giron, Lisa Henke, Lori Tecler, Lynn Put, Sankari Wegman, Sarah-Jane Kale, Tracy Clemente and Vicki Burdick. Fabulous! 🙂

Thanks for stopping in this weekend!

MFT Color Challenge #25!

MFT_ColorChallenge_PaintBook_25It’s the 2nd Thursday of the month and in walks Color Challenge #25 on the My Favorite Things Challenge & Inspiration blog.

Here’s my card for the Challenge:

hawkins_jill_you make_D_wmThis Color Challenge was definitely a challenge, in a couple ways! 🙂 In the end, it came together, with the Kraft holding it all together. Literally 🙂

Never to give up easy, I figured I’d give it another go. In 20 minutes or less. Start to finish, including photos. Ya. Figured that would never happen. I can’t even decide what to use in 20 minutes or less sometimes! LOL 🙂 But I went with these colorful strips, and bam! Voila! Here it is:

hawkins_jill_bestest wishes_wmThe glitter was not dry when I photographed this. Too funny. I quite enjoy that it is a shaped banner card though. Maybe I should adopt this 20 minute rule always? Not likely. 🙂 But I quite like this Birthday Wishes & Balloons set. Fabulous! “Bestest Wishes” just makes me happy 🙂

MFT Sketch #236

photoMFT Sketch Challenge #236 on My Favorite Things Challenge & Inspiration is rolling out today! Oh and we have the talented Kalyn Kepner with us this month!!

Here is this week’s sketch:MFT_WSC_236This is my card for the week: hawkins_jill_wishbig_wmA little shaker action! How much do I enjoy these new background stamps!!? 🙂hawkins_jill_wishbig_00_wmI used the Wink of Stella to brush over the sentiment giving it a little something, but darn, that thing is hard to photograph, especially with the added acetate and shiny stars! Ha!! I think I’d just heat emboss it next time 😉

Blueprints 26: Oh yes!

I enjoyed making a second card with this sketch. I made these a week+ apart, but geesh, are there similarities or what? 😉

hawkins_jill_enjoy_wmThis Balloon Strings background makes my crafty heart go pitter-patter. What fun this can be! 🙂

hawkins_jill_enjoy_00_wm

The amount of debate I had over whether both of these balloons should have a string or not? You can see which way I went 🙂
