The Day Marcie Threw It Down…

It’s awesome to have crafty friends, as they understand and speak the same crafty language. My one such friend, Marcie Sharp, has been collaborating with a bunch of peeps for some fun blogging. 🙂 Marcie had this great idea to challenge each other out of our comfort zones. Which, let me tell you, I was ALL about. Because, let’s face it, we like our grooves, right?!  🙂 Marcie totally called me out to do a feminine, elegant, layered card. You want me to do WHAT now?! Haaaaaa!! I did say this would be fun! 😉

Lots to say, but here’s my card:

hawkins_jill_birthday wishes_wmSo naturally, my first thought was flowers. It was the layers/feminine I knew I’d struggle with. I didn’t realize until I finished, but I rebelled when it came to the colors. They are not necessarily feminine, per say. But I guess it was my unconscious trade-off to making this challenge my own. I still laugh seeing it now. 🙂

hawkins_jill_birthday wishes_00_wmI definitely pictured something way more *pretty* in my mind, but this is what came out. I do think it is: A) lovely overall B) a fun color combo C) definitely not something I would normally make D) falls slightly short of my overall “elegant” goal. But I definitely went out of my zone and tried, which is what it was all about, I do believe. 🙂

AND let me say, the card base is stamped with MFT’s All Over Roses BG stamp. The first thing I grabbed, was the Grid BG Stamp, because I wanted to ground it graphically. But thinking in our challenge terms, I grabbed the Roses. So, that’s something! 🙂

Be sure to head over HERE and find out what Marcie whipped up. My Challenge to her: WATERCOLOR!! I know it is going to rock, as Marcie really covers a gamut of card making styles, often. So it was hard to Challenge her! I think Marcie probably hustled me, because I’m certain she’s a closet watercolor master, but has claimed the opposite. 🙂

My card is made with the following supplies at My Favorite Things: Die-namics: Wonky Stitched Rectangle STAX, Build-able Blooms  Stamps: Build-able Blooms, Birthday Wishes & Balloons, Roses All Over BG. Card stock.

HUGE HUGE Thanks to Marcie for inviting me along, the challenge, and for laughing with me (in fear! haaaa!)! 🙂 It was a fun challenge and a lesson about my style! 🙂
Have a great weekend!

It’s a Great Thursday for Technique Tuesday!*

Welcome to my third week of Technique Tuesday Thursdays*! You can hop over to the TT blog for this week’s low down!

OK, prepare for some fun! Teri’s new little Robot set, Favorite Human, is so very fun! I’m not kidding when I say I had to hide it from myself for a while, so that I would diversify! 😉

My first card is actually the first card I made with the new TT goodies! I still geek over it. 🙂 hawkins_jill_my heart beeps_wmBeep! This set: <3!! I also used the Clipboard die, which is a staple die set to own, in my opinion. No pun intended, but close, with an office supply and all. 😉 haaa!

hawkins_jill_my heart beeps_00_wmSo after I made the above card, with the fun robot background, I thought, hmmmm…and made another! 🙂

hawkins_jill_talk nerdy_wm“Talk Nerdy to Me”?!! I yelped! SO FUN! 🙂

hawkins_jill_talk nerdy_00_wmThe Favorite Human stamp set has lots of fun stamps all tucked into one smaller price-point. And, let’s face it, that is enjoyable in and of itself! Because: MORE STAMPS!! Be sure to head over to the Technique Tuesday blog today! I’ll see you back here next week for more! 🙂

In case you missed it, you can find my previous TT posts: Last week HERE, and the week prior, HERE. 🙂

Paper Smooches fun!

Fortunately, I have not been voted off the island as February Guest Designer at Paper Smooches!! 😉 Such fun to use some of my favorites!! Hop over to the PS Blog today!

I will not mention how long this first card took to land on. I tinkered and tinkered and tinkered, and then #boom. Funny how the simplest things take me quite a long time! 😉

The sentiments and fonts in the new Fun & Flirty stamp set can truly hold a card, as you can see here:   hawkins_jill_wonderful_wmI mean, really. That’s fun. 🙂

hawkins_jill_wonderful_00_wmFor my second card this week, I used the fun new Wine Glass die! Got things shakin’! 🙂

hawkins_jill_amazing_wmYou are Ridiculously Amazing. My sentiments exactly. Go figure! 🙂 hawkins_jill_amazing_00_wmI’m clearly in a Distress Ink watercolor mode, and the results are fun. I decided I don’t enjoy  when I make cards too “neat”, so this technique is fitting for me to use! If that makes any sense, at all. LOL 🙂

Love Love Love this Fun & Flirty sentiment set! So fortunate to have it on my desk! 🙂

Paper Smooches supplies: Fun & Flirty, and Wine Glass die.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I’ll see you again next Wednesday for my last Paper Smooches Guest Designer post. Wow, that’s crazy–February is flyin’! 🙂 🙂

MFT Sketch 267, Turtley Cool

Squeaking in my take on MFT Sketch Challenge #267! (Check it out: My Favorite Things Challenge & Inspiration blog.)photoThis turtle from Birdie Brown: <3. I flipped the sketch a little and tweaked it, but it’s there! 🙂

hawkins_jill_aloha_wmShe’s basking in the Sun! Ahhhh Sun! 🙂

hawkins_jill_aloha_00_wmI colored this Turtle for Day 15 of Kathy Racoosin’s The Daily Marker, 30 Day Color Challenge. I completed Kathy’s last 30 Day challenge, and I figured this time I would try to do part time. But so far, I’ve managed every day! Which is great, because I usually spend my time die cutting! 🙂

My card is made with the following supplies at My Favorite Things: Die-namics: Stitched Traditional Tag STAX, Die-namics Stitched Fishtail Flags STAX, Die-namics Stitched Mini Scalloped Circles STAX. Stamps: BB Polynesian Paradise. Card stock and Black Licorice Hybrid ink. Patterned Paper: My Mind’s Eye.

Paper Smooches! :)

Have I mentioned how excited I am to be the February Guest Designer at Paper Smooches!! It’s like going over to hang out at one of your favorite places. 🙂 Be sure to hop over to the PS Blog today!

I simply love the sentiments and fonts in the new Fun & Flirty stamp set. I think I’ve stamped almost every sentiment already! 🙂

Here is my first card this week: I masked and inked a hexagon for the background.

hawkins_jill_hey beautiful_00_wmThis card also uses the new Rain Boot die! Just so fun and fitting for Spring!! 🙂 hawkins_jill_hey beautiful_wmWhen I saw this next sentiment, I couldn’t wait to stamp it! 🙂

hawkins_jill_favorite human_wm I initially did the panel, with the peeks of color. Couldn’t decide if I should just leave it alone or what? So naturally, I stamped the little guys from Space Cadet, creating a fun little backdrop! 😉hawkins_jill_favorite human_00_wm_Love that simple font. ❤

Paper Smooches supplies: Fun & Flirty, Rain Boots Dies, Tiny Hearts dies, Market Fresh, and Space Cadet.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I’ll see you again next Wednesday for more Paper Smooches fun! 🙂
