Summer School!

Happy Summer! My friend Jen suggested we get our Summer School on and participate in the MFT Summer School series. I thought it was a great idea and I was game, as I always love a challenge! πŸ™‚You can Join in the fun HERE. I think there is still several days left to participate. You don’t have to do them all, by any means.

I dug into my MFT archives of well used stamps and dies and pulled out some for these projects. I had fun making them all and enjoyed the challenges. On with the cards, yes?!

For this card, I used one of my favorite Birdie Brown stamps off all time from the Polynesian Paradise set. I also used the Stripes Cover Up and the Four Way Chevron Cover up (embossed). I inlaid the strips to create subtle texture for the white space. White space rules! πŸ™‚

Primary Colors–Red, Yellow and Blue…

For this card, I used the London Mouse set and the Amazing set for the sentiment. Added some Kuretake watercolors for the background and fussy cut the mice. out. I thought this turned out fun!

I love repetition, but even more, I enjoy simplicity. It’s always hard to know if something is too simple or just enough. Especially after you’ve been looking at too long. LOL! My rule of thumb: Walk away! If you’re debating, it’s usually best to walk away. πŸ™‚

The black and white of these pandas is perfection for this. The biggest debate was what color to make the sign! πŸ˜‰ This set is called Happy Pandas and the dies are the old school version (they are solid and not cut out) which was funny to go back and figure out again. πŸ˜‰

For Complementary Colors, I chose to go with Green and “Red”, aka, Pink. πŸ™‚

This dino is from the set You’re Rawr-some! Love that sentiment! πŸ™‚ I watercolored the dino with my Kuretake watercolors (a bit too solidly for my taste). Still not sure I like this look, but it’s good to try something different once in awhile, right?

For this one, I went with these cutie Koalas colored with Copic Markers! Back to my comfort zone. πŸ˜‰

This set is called Cuddly Koalas. I also used the Chunky Herringbone stencil, Stitched Rectangle Frame and Grassy Field die. Cute cute!

To finish these, I added some stitching to each. My Panda card had some Pretty Pink Posh Sparkling Clear confetti bits added.

Big thanks to my friend Jen for suggesting we do this (Jen’s are sure to be showstoppers!!) and thanks to you for stopping by!

Take care– Jill πŸ™‚

Freshly Made Sketches Guest! :)

Happy Wednesday! Today, I have the fun opportunity to be the Guest Designer for the Freshly Made Sketches crew! Thank you to my crafty friend Jennifer Timko,Β  for inviting me to join in this month! You can check out their inspiring challenge blog HERE!

And here is this week’s sketch:

And here is my take! πŸ™‚ I thought this Avery ElleΒ  Critter Crew stamp was perfect for celebrating a new home! πŸ™‚ My friend and her family just moved into a new house yesterday, and there are five of them–too fitting! πŸ™‚

I colored these AE cuties with C opic Markers and added them to an MFT Balloon diecut from the Balloons STAX.

This sentiment is from Avery Elle’s Home Sweet Home, which I believe is retired? The patterned paper is Lawn Fawn’s Gotta Have Gingham Paper Pad ( ❀ ). I am so excited about welcoming them all home. ❀

Thanks so much for stopping by! And thanks so much to the Freshly Made Sketches team for having me along this month! πŸ™‚

Take care– Jill πŸ™‚

The Cutest Video Hop Ever!

logo_finalHappy ❀ Day, and welcome to The Cutest Video Hop Ever!  My son and I are VERY excited and grateful to be joining Emily Leiphart for this fun hop celebrating 5000 subscribers on her YouTube channel but, more importantly, inspiring the next generation of crafters!  We hope you have as much fun watching us craft with our kids, as much as we enjoyed creating these projects to share with you.  We are also proud to have two very inspiring young crafters joining us on their own YouTube channels.

I prepped everything, and my son colored all the critters. Afterwards, he excitedly shouted, in a *chop chop* fastion, “Ok, let’s make the video!” I started to explain what the overall plan was, and he said he wanted to do it all on his own, HIS way. Perfect! (But I wasn’t sure what to expect! haaa!) He started, finished twenty minutes later (including our glue mishaps), and that was that! πŸ™‚Β  Bam! πŸ™‚

Please note: I have NEVER crafted a video before, so be warned. From the filming, to editing, it is all new to me. My son however, seems to be a natural at the instruction. Who knew?! ❀

Here is our video ❀ :

Here are the photos of my son’s valentines and a handful of valentines I made! ❀

I think these are so stinkin’ cute! Our family and his friends are going to love them! πŸ™‚
hawkins_ps-valentines

He put pom poms on that little Paper Smooches sheep! So cute! πŸ™‚

I laugh because he colored this one Technique Tuesday fox fairly traditionally, and the other is a party! Also, one gets all the Tootsie Rolls? LOL. Love it! πŸ™‚hawkins_tt-valentines

Here are a few cards I colored using Elena’s new Just Me Digital Stamps–so stinkin’ cute!! πŸ™‚
hawkins_jill-valentine
I colored all these with Copic Markers. The images are so sweet, and it is easy to download and print them yourself! Another first for me on this hop: Digital Stamps! And…now I want them all! LOL πŸ™‚hawkins_jill-smore2
These frame dies and the heart dies my son used, are all from My Favorite Things. hawkins_jill-smore_01
Oooops, a little stitching blooper on this one above! shhhh! πŸ™‚
hawkins_jill_love_wm
This Technique Tuesday card is made with the Long Love die. It is super delicate, so I recommend using one of the sticky papers so you can die cut all at once to adhere. The hearts are from the Heart Strings die. Awwwww love. πŸ™‚
jill_i-love-you-die_01

And, last, but not least, is this valentine using Paper Smooches I Love You die and the For You tag die. This one is for my hubby, so I thought the gray was perfect to “man” it up a bit. This is a fun die for many occasions! πŸ™‚

I want to give a HUGE HUGE thanks out to Emily, for first, being crazy enough to ask my son and me to join this hop. And secondly, for her encouragement to make this video and edit it. I can’t say whether or not I’ll ever craft another video, but I will say it was a very good thing to try.Β (I embedded this video link above and felt so accomplished! LOL!!). My son will likely request to make another πŸ™‚ . I always enjoy a challenge…Even if I did miss a typo in the video. Bwaaahaaaa! I did that on “purpose”… wink wink! Thanks again, Emily! πŸ™‚

Thanks for joining us today…be sure you hop on to Laura BassenΒ (& leave comments too for a chance at the fantastic prizes!).Β Laura’s videos are inspiring and I always find myself laughing out loud! Her daughter is sure to add even more fun! πŸ™‚

Signing off!

Monstrous Birthday

Here’s my take on MFT Sketch Challenge #316 from the MFT Card Challenges blog!photoBirthday parties means birthday cards ahead! πŸ™‚

hawkins_jill_monster_00_wm

My son would paint the world orange if he could, so I always try to work in his requested color. πŸ™‚ This is a pretty direct take on the sketch, except that I moved the sentiment up. I simply stamped and die cut everything. I then used some orange caution washi strip down the side. I mounted it all up on foam tape for a little something! πŸ™‚hawkins_jill_monster_wm

These monsters get a workout around here! πŸ™‚

Otterly Great

Here’s my take on MFT Sketch Challenge #315 and MFT Color Challenge #61!photoI have surprised myself by getting in another Challenge entry! I had to use these otters though! Because: Cutie otters and puns! πŸ™‚

hawkins_jill_otter-bday_00_wm

I masked and stamped this cutie, colored with Copic markers, and then fussy cut the edge, so he would hang off a little bit. I adhered the colors of the challenge, and did a little fussy/trickery die cutting to pull the whole thing together. πŸ˜‰hawkins_jill_otter-bday_wm

Just a little something different to try. πŸ™‚

Supplies from My Favorite Things, including the new BB Otterly Love You. So stinkin’ cute!

Have a great week!

Hugs!

Here’s my take on MFT Sketch Challenge #314 and MFT Color Challenge #60!

photo I arrived home late from a school meeting last night, but still wanted to make something. Our household has been under the weather, and I was behind on creating anything! Ahhh! πŸ™‚

I was itching to inlay something, and of course, the strips of card stock is always a fave of mine to do!

hawkins_jill_hugs_00_wm

I wasn’t sure how it would look with the strips on an angle, but I like it! It’s getting mailed today!hawkins_jill_hugs_wm

I rotated the sketch, so the HUGS is the big rectangle, and the nod to the then vertical piece, is my stitching. I couldn’t decide what to do for that element, but I think the stitching turned out fun, albeit a little off from where I intended. Ha! I held my breath as I started stitching, and as I did that little piece at the bottom. I wanted them aligned, and I wasn’t sure where my needle left off! Oh silliness πŸ™‚

Supplies from My Favorite Things!

Anywho, there you have it! Thanks for stopping by!

Eye Like You

Here’s my take on MFT Sketch Challenge #311. Always a delight to have a good read over at the MFT Card Challenges blog!photo

I wanted to play along, and but had to be expeditious! Even making just the quickest of cards, is such a great way to end the day!hawkins_jill_eye-like-you hawkins_jill_eye-like-you_00_wmI just masked some circles for these little guys, and then did some quick stamping. This is a set that will get inked often for kiddo’s birthday parties! πŸ™‚
