Avery Elle: Winter!

I have so many supplies that have been screaming at me to use them. So, I am doing just that! πŸ™‚ This time, I busted out another favorite, Avery Elle.

My Grannie lives in sunny Florida and recently moved. I thought she would get a kick out of a “Cool Digs” igloo card in Florida! πŸ™‚

hawkins_jill_cool digs_wmThis Distress ink watercolors look pretty dang cool in person, but yet, I just can’t get the photo to cooperate. (The photography saga goes on! Ha!! πŸ™‚ )

hawkins_jill_cool digs_00_wmI thought it would be fun to do a tone on tone background for this jazzy tag. So I used the Happy Camper set and did just that. Delightful πŸ™‚ The igloo and sentiment are from the fun set, Home Sweet Home. Love that teepee! πŸ™‚

This works out to play along with the AEIβ™₯U Challenge this month: Winter!Challenge 32Here’s just a few other Avery Elle projects I made previously: here, here, here, & here!

This is my second entry for the AEIβ™₯U Challenge this month: Non-White Card Base. I had a dental appointment this morning, so I had a lot of anxiety to craft through last night! πŸ™‚ It’s funny, but true! Ha!

You can see my first go at it HERE. <—When my sewing machine rebelled. πŸ™‚

Here’s my other card:

hawkins_jill_oh happy day_AEwmI enjoy these cute light bulbs! In hindsight, I would have done them all in white watercolor instead of the mix I used, but alas. πŸ™‚

I’m happy I was able to participate in the AEIβ™₯U Challenge this month with two cards! Just needed to ink these old friends up and take ’em for a spin.

Avery ElleΒ stamps: Bunting and Oh Happy Day.

the day my sewing machine got REAL mad…

I have been waiting years for my sewing machine to get angry with me, because I’m always sewing paper. Truth is, I’m not sure it’s ever seen fabric!? Long story short, it got REAL mad at me while making this card last night. Luckily, it didn’t go as awry as I thought it would. However, I’m not entirely pleased with its behavioral outcome either. Oh well…sometimes you just gotta roll. πŸ˜‰

TheΒ AEIβ™₯U Challenge this month is a Non-White Card Base!! Well, Kraft is like peanut butter to my jelly, so I went straight there. Haaaa!

Here’s my card…

Non-holiday products to make a holiday card–Fun!

This is a lot of die cutting, and that panel takes a beating running it through the machine so much, but it’s worth it! So enjoyable. πŸ™‚ A couple of tags stamped, cut out…and Bam! πŸ˜‰

(endless) gratitude to PC&S

pc&s hophawkins_jill_cookies2_I always love a good laugh…and while I fully intended to post a Thank You card, I thought we might need a laugh at this point! πŸ™‚ But please, pass the tissues :(.

Today we, Paper Crafts & Scrapbooking magazine enthusiasts, say a BIG THANK YOU and a fond farewell to a beloved publication & the people that made it all happen…ok, seriously, get the tissues 😦

You should have arrived here (stop #133) from Taylor Usry’s blog.

When I received the contributor email regarding the ceasing of Paper Crafts and Scrapbooking Magazine after the February issue, my heart sank. The people. The amazing people at PC&S. I so feel for their loss on many levels. Then, after awhile, it sank in further…no more Paper Crafts. No more? 😦

Well, what the heck? What do I do now? What do WE do now? PC&S is soooo much more than publications. It’s a community. It’s inspiration. It’s fun and let me be frank, awesome! AWESOME. AWESOME. πŸ™‚

I am guessing I am similar to many…for years I’ve read and admired issues of Paper Crafts (& Scrapbooking). I’ve always considered it the go-to publication/resource in the industry. It just spoke to me with it’s clean look, clear layouts, fun articles, Go-To-Gals, and AMAZING content. Seriously. Every issue I find myself gasping at people’s talents! Gosh–the talent is unbelievable. And it is clearly a reflection on the publication itself, drawing that talent issue after issue.

One day, like MANY, I read the publication calls. It was for scraps. Well, gee, I have a card on my desk that fits this bill entirely. Maybe I should finish it and send it in? What the heck! And after letting it sit on my computer for awhile, rethinking it over and over, I did. By golly, I’m glad I did! I got that coveted email from Susan R. Opel. It’s like the heavens opened with sunshine, and that music played in the background…and I kept thinking, “Is this a joke? Surely this is a joke!?” If you’re a paper crafter/card maker/scrapbooker, being in PC&S is like the FREAKING BOMB. That giddy feeling of an acceptance email is unexplainable. I buzzed around not knowing what to do with my hands! What do I do with my hands!!? LOL. Too funny. I must have read that email over 27 times+. Then I responded to Susan’s email with about 10,000 exclamation points. I figured she’d think I was nutso. (Which I was!) Instead, she shared in my joy and cheered me on. SRO…a truly delightful and sincere person :).

Then there were the contests I always admired from afar too. I again figured I had nothing to lose but not trying seemed silly. So I made cards and entered. The honor to be a winner! Geesh. And the community. Just loved it so. I have been so fortunate, being included in issues and amongst contest winners. It’s humbling, as I still feel like I’m “looking in”. πŸ™‚

Anywhoozle…this was way longer than my usual post of 50-100 words, so I’ll close it out with this: Thank you to Paper Crafts and Scrapbooking–for the fun, the inspiration, the challenges, the amazing issues EVERY time, the community, the fabulous photography, the hip articles, the outstanding blog, rewriting my card instructions so they make sense ;), the elevating of oneself, the fun escapes to create, embracing my excitement with me (!), and the long distance friendships. I still struggle to say exactly “something” but…well, Be Cool. It’s a fond farewell to the publication and a see you soon to the people. πŸ™‚

Cheers to Paper Crafts and Scrapbooking! and Thank you again…and again…and again.

Next on the hop is: Chunyuan Wu. Big thanks to Taheerah Atchia for spearheading this hop! And to those who helped her. What an undertaking! πŸ™‚

…start at the beginning on Jennifer McGuire’s blog!

Thanks for hopping by–group hug! xo

hello…again

hawkins_jill_hello watercolors_TheΒ AEIβ™₯U Challenge this week is KRAFT!! Hands down, kraft is my go-to. It’s my “white”! Funny enough, I needed white to watercolor, but I wanted kraft for a neutral matte & card base. I’ve never watercolored (much) before, but I did enjoy making this…Maybe I’ll do it again?! I have lots of room to improve πŸ˜‰

happy niner…

hawkins_jill_happy nine_I saw the Moxie Fab quicky challenge last week and could not stop thinking about it! Love that geometric color fabulousness! πŸ™‚ (see below)

Anywhoozle–It also happens to be my “niece’s” NINTH birthday–gasp! So strangely enough, this worked out awesome for her, as the arrows and nine give a nod to the clock! hey hey!

I knew I’d never stamp perfectly, so I started this card out by being sure I didn’t line my triangles up exactly…I like the loose feel with this bold graphic…if that makes any sense!? Other note: I put 25 ink pads away after making this! I don’t know which is more crazy–the fact that I own well over 25 ink pads or that I put them away! HA! Fun to make!

Love the goodness Teri shares on the Moxie Fab World Blog… πŸ™‚

Happy Birthday Eliseeloo! πŸ™‚
