The Day Marcie Threw It Down…

It’s awesome to have crafty friends, as they understand and speak the same crafty language. My one such friend, Marcie Sharp, has been collaborating with a bunch of peeps for some fun blogging. πŸ™‚ Marcie had this great idea to challenge each other out of our comfort zones. Which, let me tell you, I was ALL about. Because, let’s face it, we like our grooves, right?!Β  πŸ™‚ Marcie totally called me out to do a feminine, elegant, layered card. You want me to do WHAT now?! Haaaaaa!! I did say this would be fun! πŸ˜‰

Lots to say, but here’s my card:

hawkins_jill_birthday wishes_wmSo naturally, my first thought was flowers. It was the layers/feminine I knew I’d struggle with. I didn’t realize until I finished, but I rebelled when it came to the colors. They are not necessarily feminine, per say. But I guess it was my unconscious trade-off to making this challenge my own. I still laugh seeing it now. πŸ™‚

hawkins_jill_birthday wishes_00_wmI definitely pictured something way more *pretty* in my mind, but this is what came out. I do think it is: A) lovely overall B) a fun color combo C) definitely not something I would normally make D) falls slightly short of my overall “elegant” goal. But I definitely went out of my zone and tried, which is what it was all about, I do believe. πŸ™‚

AND let me say, the card base is stamped with MFT’s All Over Roses BG stamp. The first thing I grabbed, was the Grid BG Stamp, because I wanted to ground it graphically. But thinking in our challenge terms, I grabbed the Roses. So, that’s something! πŸ™‚

Be sure to head over HERE and find out what Marcie whipped up. My Challenge to her: WATERCOLOR!! I know it is going to rock, as Marcie really covers a gamut of card making styles, often. So it was hard to Challenge her! I think Marcie probably hustled me, because I’m certain she’s a closet watercolor master, but has claimed the opposite. πŸ™‚

My card is made with the following supplies at My Favorite Things: Die-namics: Wonky Stitched Rectangle STAX, Build-able BloomsΒ  Stamps: Build-able Blooms, Birthday Wishes & Balloons, Roses All Over BG. Card stock.

HUGE HUGE Thanks to Marcie for inviting me along, the challenge, and for laughing with me (in fear! haaaa!)! πŸ™‚ It was a fun challenge and a lesson about my style! πŸ™‚
Have a great weekend!

My Favorite Things: Simplicity

Sometimes you just need to make a card, and you need to be on the quicker side. That was the case here. These MFT Party Patterns stamps are a go-to for something like this.

hawkins_jill_bestest wishes_00_wmI inked the stamps, then wiped them off with a cloth. I thought it gave a fun touch. πŸ™‚ Something a little different, but keeping this one quick and simple. I completely enjoy spending and hour + on a card when time permits, but sometimes, you just gotta rock it out. Plus, I can’t resist a one layer card…or a rainbow! πŸ˜‰hawkins_jill_bestest wishes_wmThere is still a smidge of time to get in on the MFT Sketch Challenge #253! Don’t forget to upload your card! Here is my card for the week: ONE layer! Whoot! πŸ™‚

hawkins_jill_bestest wishes bal_wmI used MFT’s newΒ  Birthday Wishes & Balloons. I am so glad I was able to make a one layer card! I like to matte things, so I had to make myself stop! πŸ™‚ The Primitive White card stock gives the card some warmth.

Sweet Sunday Sketch: #277

Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge!! #277 fires up today! πŸ™‚

Here’s this week’s sketch:

Here is my card for the week:

hawkins_jill_happy birthday_+wmI used MFT’s new Party Patterns stamp set for this square panel. I think those random shapes and squiggles are the best! So versatile! πŸ™‚ I like that a lot. AND I also quite enjoy the other stamp set and background I used. The Birthday Wishes & Balloons (font! LOVE!) and the Balloon Strings background. When I saw that background, I knew it had to come live with me πŸ˜‰

hawkins_jill_happy birthday_00_wmP.S. I’m a MISTI supporter. That tool really is incredible and lets me use stamps in ways I would not normally be able to… like this card. Stamping on an inlaid panel could yield even wackier results if I couldn’t double stamp them. It. Is. Awesome.

MFT Color Challenge #25!

MFT_ColorChallenge_PaintBook_25It’s the 2nd Thursday of the month and in walks Color Challenge #25 on the My Favorite Things Challenge & Inspiration blog.

Here’s my card for the Challenge:

hawkins_jill_you make_D_wmThis Color Challenge was definitely a challenge, in a couple ways! πŸ™‚ In the end, it came together, with the Kraft holding it all together. Literally πŸ™‚

Never to give up easy, I figured I’d give it another go. In 20 minutes or less. Start to finish, including photos. Ya. Figured that would never happen. I can’t even decide what to use in 20 minutes or less sometimes! LOL πŸ™‚ But I went with these colorful strips, and bam! Voila! Here it is:

hawkins_jill_bestest wishes_wmThe glitter was not dry when I photographed this. Too funny. I quite enjoy that it is a shaped banner card though. Maybe I should adopt this 20 minute rule always? Not likely. πŸ™‚ But I quite like this Birthday Wishes & Balloons set. Fabulous! “Bestest Wishes” just makes me happy πŸ™‚
