Summer School!

Happy Summer! My friend Jen suggested we get our Summer School on and participate in the MFT Summer School series. I thought it was a great idea and I was game, as I always love a challenge! πŸ™‚You can Join in the fun HERE. I think there is still several days left to participate. You don’t have to do them all, by any means.

I dug into my MFT archives of well used stamps and dies and pulled out some for these projects. I had fun making them all and enjoyed the challenges. On with the cards, yes?!

For this card, I used one of my favorite Birdie Brown stamps off all time from the Polynesian Paradise set. I also used the Stripes Cover Up and the Four Way Chevron Cover up (embossed). I inlaid the strips to create subtle texture for the white space. White space rules! πŸ™‚

Primary Colors–Red, Yellow and Blue…

For this card, I used the London Mouse set and the Amazing set for the sentiment. Added some Kuretake watercolors for the background and fussy cut the mice. out. I thought this turned out fun!

I love repetition, but even more, I enjoy simplicity. It’s always hard to know if something is too simple or just enough. Especially after you’ve been looking at too long. LOL! My rule of thumb: Walk away! If you’re debating, it’s usually best to walk away. πŸ™‚

The black and white of these pandas is perfection for this. The biggest debate was what color to make the sign! πŸ˜‰ This set is called Happy Pandas and the dies are the old school version (they are solid and not cut out) which was funny to go back and figure out again. πŸ˜‰

For Complementary Colors, I chose to go with Green and “Red”, aka, Pink. πŸ™‚

This dino is from the set You’re Rawr-some! Love that sentiment! πŸ™‚ I watercolored the dino with my Kuretake watercolors (a bit too solidly for my taste). Still not sure I like this look, but it’s good to try something different once in awhile, right?

For this one, I went with these cutie Koalas colored with Copic Markers! Back to my comfort zone. πŸ˜‰

This set is called Cuddly Koalas. I also used the Chunky Herringbone stencil, Stitched Rectangle Frame and Grassy Field die. Cute cute!

To finish these, I added some stitching to each. My Panda card had some Pretty Pink Posh Sparkling Clear confetti bits added.

Big thanks to my friend Jen for suggesting we do this (Jen’s are sure to be showstoppers!!) and thanks to you for stopping by!

Take care– Jill πŸ™‚

hello

I remember watching the MFT Superstar Design contest last year and thought how much fun it looked to participate. I was excited to see year two of the contest this year. As time goes, well, I’m barely sneaking one in, but here it is!

PrintI do love a colorful card! πŸ™‚

hawkins_jill_hello-bright_00_wmSome good ol’ die cutting of the die cut. Good times. πŸ™‚hawkins_jill_hello-bright_wmFor this, I first die cut the Four Way Chevron and inlaid that. Then I cut that panel with the Chunky Chevron Cover Up. I put down the Chunky Chevron panel and glued on all the Chevron bits in and removed it. The letters are the HIgh Rise Alphabet. (A long time fave!) I added a little stitching to finish it off, and whammo, done! πŸ™‚

I admittedly almost binned this one, because it seemed too busy. But in the end, I kept going, and eventually warmed to it a bit. πŸ™‚

I’m going to hop over there and check out some of the entries soon! I love a good contest–so much talent! πŸ™‚ Check it all out HERE.

Thanks for stopping by!

MFT Sketch #250 AND Holiday Tag!

photoMFT Sketch Challenge #250 begins on the My Favorite Things Challenge & InspirationΒ Blog today!

This week’s sketch:

MFT_WSC_250Here is my take this week:

hawkins_jill_elfie_wmI sort of stretched the center panels wider and shifted the feature element (in this case, the Elf’s selfie) to the side. I then used the letters for the banner element. Just a little creative interpretation right? πŸ™‚

*elfie! I still giggle.

hawkins_jill_elfie_00_wmThis week is also an exciting, fun-filled Handmade Holiday celebration on the MFT Blog!

PrintBe sure to hop over there and catch up! Today, there are Tags-O-Plenty from several members of the Design Teams. I love tags! Here is my contribution:

hawkins_jill_joy tag_reWMOh my word–How much do I love the way the Four Way Chevron die cut with the Snow Drifts Cover Up and then with the Stitched Tag. I pulled it out of my machine after all the cutting, and just sort of gasped! LOL πŸ™‚ Be sure to go join in the fun!

MFT Color Challenge #28

MFT_ColorChallenge_PaintBook_28It’s the 2nd Thursday of the month and off we go! Color Challenge #28 is on the My Favorite Things Challenge & Inspiration blog! Be sure to hop there as the other girls CERTAINLY rocked this! πŸ™‚

My go at it: I am so digging Tropical Teal right now! πŸ™‚

hawkins_jill_M_wmI know, I used the Four Way Chevron Cover-up again…but I had to! It’s awesome!! πŸ™‚

hawkins_jill_M_00_wmIn my continuing effort to make quicker cards now-and-again (ha!), I made this one below with remnants and pieces made previously for other cards. That sure makes it quicker!! LOL πŸ˜‰hawkins_jill_good things_wmThen, I accidentally starting stitching in the wrong place. Soooo, that placement was decided. Nuts. I’m not sure I’m loving it overall, but there are some takeaways for sure πŸ˜‰hawkins_jill_good things_00_wm

hawkins_jill_hi_00_wmI die cut the Four Way Chevron many times and pieced it together. Then I die cut that whole thing with the Stripes Cover-up and pieced those in. And then die cut that whole thing with the Rectangle STAX. Dang–so so fun! πŸ™‚

MFT Color Challenge #27 & Summer School!!

MFT_ColorChallenge_PaintBook_27It’s the 2nd Thursday of the month and Boom! Color Challenge #27 on the My Favorite Things Challenge & Inspiration blog. PLUS–MFT Summer School!! πŸ™‚

My card for this Color Challenge:

hawkins_jill_gold star_wmThe new Fringe die has lots of possibilities. Here I die cut the Fringe with the Stitched Basic Edges die, to add a little interest. πŸ™‚

hawkins_jill_gold star_00_wm

(The Delicata Gold ink holds the embossing powder, but I decided to add another layer with Versamark as well. πŸ˜‰ )

PrintBonus! Today is Day Four of MFT Summer School: Session Three. Today is all about Color Saturation. Hop over to the MFT Blog to read about it all. Susan R. Opel will school us all real good! πŸ˜‰

Color Saturation – The intensity of color. The more white or gray that’s added, the less saturated the color becomes. Cards tend to work best when the saturation of the colors are on a similar scale.

Here is my card: I squealed with delight when I finished. You do that too sometimes right? πŸ˜‰

hawkins_jill_think happy_wmI definitely lean toward the bright/darker colors rather than the muted ones. I am often in awe of people who use the lighter colors successfully. I love these saturated colors together! πŸ™‚

hawkins_jill_think happy_00_wmI die cut the new Four Way Chevron Cover-up several times and pieced together. Then I die cut that panel with the Stripes cover-up and pieced that together. Crazy clapping ensued. You just never know what things are going to look like and I do not enjoy wasting time. LOL πŸ™‚ This delights me ever so very much!

MFT Summer School: Asymmetry

MFT_SummerSchool3_MFTTVMy Favorite Things: Summer School Session Three rolls on! Day 2.
Print

Symmetry balanced proportions and Asymmetry The placement of non-identical forms to either side of a balancing point in a way that the two sides seem to be of the same visual weight but aren’t.

You want to pop over to the MFT Blog to be schooled. These lessons are well put together by Susan. πŸ™‚

Here’s my take on the lesson: Asymmetry.

hawkins_jill_lean on me_wmI’m all about symmetry in architecture. But there’s something about card making that makes it fun to rebel. πŸ™‚

hawkins_jill_lean on me_00Hope you can check out all the fun on the My Favorite Things blog this week. The design teams have surely made plenty of cards to see and link to! A plethora of Inspiration!
