Summer School!

Happy Summer! My friend Jen suggested we get our Summer School on and participate in the MFT Summer School series. I thought it was a great idea and I was game, as I always love a challenge! 🙂You can Join in the fun HERE. I think there is still several days left to participate. You don’t have to do them all, by any means.

I dug into my MFT archives of well used stamps and dies and pulled out some for these projects. I had fun making them all and enjoyed the challenges. On with the cards, yes?!

For this card, I used one of my favorite Birdie Brown stamps off all time from the Polynesian Paradise set. I also used the Stripes Cover Up and the Four Way Chevron Cover up (embossed). I inlaid the strips to create subtle texture for the white space. White space rules! 🙂

Primary Colors–Red, Yellow and Blue…

For this card, I used the London Mouse set and the Amazing set for the sentiment. Added some Kuretake watercolors for the background and fussy cut the mice. out. I thought this turned out fun!

I love repetition, but even more, I enjoy simplicity. It’s always hard to know if something is too simple or just enough. Especially after you’ve been looking at too long. LOL! My rule of thumb: Walk away! If you’re debating, it’s usually best to walk away. 🙂

The black and white of these pandas is perfection for this. The biggest debate was what color to make the sign! 😉 This set is called Happy Pandas and the dies are the old school version (they are solid and not cut out) which was funny to go back and figure out again. 😉

For Complementary Colors, I chose to go with Green and “Red”, aka, Pink. 🙂

This dino is from the set You’re Rawr-some! Love that sentiment! 🙂 I watercolored the dino with my Kuretake watercolors (a bit too solidly for my taste). Still not sure I like this look, but it’s good to try something different once in awhile, right?

For this one, I went with these cutie Koalas colored with Copic Markers! Back to my comfort zone. 😉

This set is called Cuddly Koalas. I also used the Chunky Herringbone stencil, Stitched Rectangle Frame and Grassy Field die. Cute cute!

To finish these, I added some stitching to each. My Panda card had some Pretty Pink Posh Sparkling Clear confetti bits added.

Big thanks to my friend Jen for suggesting we do this (Jen’s are sure to be showstoppers!!) and thanks to you for stopping by!

Take care– Jill 🙂

Sending Hugs | MFT Sketch 291

Here’s my take on MFT Sketch Challenge #291. My Favorite Things Challenge & Inspiration Blog!photoI used the scene I made last night for #thedailymarker30day. I was all set to turn in early, so I was planning something simple and quick. But then, this happened! Haaa! So much masking and then I colored in with both my Zig markers and Distress Inks as watercolors. I kinda botched painting the Ferris Wheel back there, but it was too late to turn back. It isn’t tragic, right?  🙂 I finished the card with some stitching, and matted the whole panel.

hawkins_jill_sending hugs_wmI used the Sketch as a guide for this scene. Can you see the inspiration? It is definitely there! 🙂

These are a couple of my favorite MFT stamp sets: London Mouse and Label Maker Love by My Favorite Things. 🙂

MFT Sketch #276

Challenge in the Challenge: 30 minutes or less, start to finish.

Behold, the 25 minute card! 🙂 Phew!

Here’s my take on MFT Sketch Challenge #276! (My Favorite Things Challenge & Inspiration blog.)photoThis is one of the fastest cards I have ever completed. LOL. If I wasn’t in such a hurry, I would have stamped the sentiments one at a time to get them snug together, but alas.

hawkins_jill_wishing you_wmThe one card I never have ready to go is a flat-out Birthday card! And being a card maker, why would I have those done and ready on time? 😉

I used a dark gray ink to stamp the sentiment. I didn’t want it to be solid and dark. It worked out well. The part that took the longest was drying the ink and then the watercolor. Impatience. Geesh.

hawkins_jill_wishing you_00_wmDo I love this card? Well, it’s better than I thought it would be, for sure! However, I have spent hours on a card and not liked it in the end, so in that case, I LOVE this card!! 🙂

My card is made with supplies at My Favorite Things. Die-namics: Blueprints 13, Stitched Basic Lines. Stamps: London Mouse and Label Maker Sentiments.

hawkins_jill_warmest thanks_wmI was scanning my supplies of what to use this week, and there were these little mice, in their winter warmth. 😉 I’m also in a blending phase, so I wanted to do that. Haaa! 😉 MFT Die inks are stellar for blending. Especially on the blending card. hawkins_jill_warmest thanks_00_wm Photos do not do the Sparkle card stock justice. It’s soooo sparkly in person! Ahhh sparkle. 🙂

I hope to be back later this week with another MFT card, time willing! The holidays are beginning to have their rippling effects on time… 🙂 Thoroughly enjoyable, but ripples nonetheless.

MFT Sketch #248

This week’s sketch:MFT_WSC_248Here is my take this week:

hawkins_jill_thank you really_wmKeeping it simple and bold. I enjoy using simply detailed supplies in different ways. The MFT Stitched STAX are really the best dies one can invest in. The possibilities!! 🙂 AND this sentiment is one of my all time favorites. PerfectO! The stitching is the nod to the stars in the sketch.

hawkins_jill_thank you really_00_wmIn my continuing effort to create cards faster (Never fear…I’ll always be very slow too!), I made this second card:

hawkins_jill_fella_wmI’m really enjoy the buildings and little scene pieces in the London Mouse set. But I was neglecting these cute little fellas! Awww…and they are cute! 🙂 Errr, I mean, handsome. 😉

photoHey hey! MFT Sketch Challenge #244 is on My Favorite Things Challenge & Inspiration blog today!

This week’s sketch:MFT_WSC_244My card for this week:

hawkins_jill_dew_WMSoda POP! And DEW!? Dewey love? Yes we Dew! 🙂 haaaaa! Laina rocks great designs. I also completely enjoy this stencil and cover up. Ahhh September new releases! 🙂

hawkins_jill_dew_00_WM

I have a second card to share using this sketch. It is quite a loose take. I used the building as the “tag” and went from there. I usually look at a sketch to start and don’t look at it again. That’s how things get a little wacky, often. 🙂

hawkins_jill_you're sweet friend_wmI decided I had *medium* control issues after making this. The watercolors want to flow, not be controlled. 😉

hawkins_jill_you're sweet friend_00_wmSuch a fun set nonetheless. And I’ll keep practicing. 🙂
