Summer School!

Happy Summer! My friend Jen suggested we get our Summer School on and participate in the MFT Summer School series. I thought it was a great idea and I was game, as I always love a challenge! πŸ™‚You can Join in the fun HERE. I think there is still several days left to participate. You don’t have to do them all, by any means.

I dug into my MFT archives of well used stamps and dies and pulled out some for these projects. I had fun making them all and enjoyed the challenges. On with the cards, yes?!

For this card, I used one of my favorite Birdie Brown stamps off all time from the Polynesian Paradise set. I also used the Stripes Cover Up and the Four Way Chevron Cover up (embossed). I inlaid the strips to create subtle texture for the white space. White space rules! πŸ™‚

Primary Colors–Red, Yellow and Blue…

For this card, I used the London Mouse set and the Amazing set for the sentiment. Added some Kuretake watercolors for the background and fussy cut the mice. out. I thought this turned out fun!

I love repetition, but even more, I enjoy simplicity. It’s always hard to know if something is too simple or just enough. Especially after you’ve been looking at too long. LOL! My rule of thumb: Walk away! If you’re debating, it’s usually best to walk away. πŸ™‚

The black and white of these pandas is perfection for this. The biggest debate was what color to make the sign! πŸ˜‰ This set is called Happy Pandas and the dies are the old school version (they are solid and not cut out) which was funny to go back and figure out again. πŸ˜‰

For Complementary Colors, I chose to go with Green and “Red”, aka, Pink. πŸ™‚

This dino is from the set You’re Rawr-some! Love that sentiment! πŸ™‚ I watercolored the dino with my Kuretake watercolors (a bit too solidly for my taste). Still not sure I like this look, but it’s good to try something different once in awhile, right?

For this one, I went with these cutie Koalas colored with Copic Markers! Back to my comfort zone. πŸ˜‰

This set is called Cuddly Koalas. I also used the Chunky Herringbone stencil, Stitched Rectangle Frame and Grassy Field die. Cute cute!

To finish these, I added some stitching to each. My Panda card had some Pretty Pink Posh Sparkling Clear confetti bits added.

Big thanks to my friend Jen for suggesting we do this (Jen’s are sure to be showstoppers!!) and thanks to you for stopping by!

Take care– Jill πŸ™‚

MFT Sketch #243

photoBuckle up, MFT Sketch Challenge #243 is on My Favorite Things Challenge & Inspiration posts up today!!

This week’s sketch:MFT_WSC_243My card for the week:

hawkins_jill_make happy_00_wmThis one is a doozy to write instructions for, that don’t sound wack…die cut the die cut and then die cut that die cut…etc. Several die cutting and inlay steps…but such cool results! That checkerboard! Weeeeee!

hawkins_jill_make happy_wmI made another card previously (for MFT Summer School) using this same method. You can see it HERE. I still want to do a myriad of colors with this checkerboard. That’s on my list for September/October πŸ˜‰

I squeaked in a second card last night for this awesomely versatile sketch:

hawkins_jill_bear hug_wmI could use several of this card to send out. ❀

hawkins_jill_bear hug_00_wmI used foam tape to pop the frame up. Adds a little something πŸ˜‰

MFT Summer School: Gallon/Quart/Pint

PrintToday starts another fun week on the MFT Blog! MFT Summer School: Session TWO! Oh yes! πŸ™‚

Today’s lesson:

PrintThe ol’ Gallon/Quart/Pint trick…You use a lot of one color, a little of the next, and even less of the next. Such fun! I could do these little lessons all day. I think I always say that, but it’s true! πŸ™‚

Anywho, on with my card:

hawkins_jill_miss you_wmMy card here sort of takes the gallon to the extreme and the others to the brink, but you get the picture. I have been trying to stamp more, and kept this one simple. I tend to die cut, so I like to be sure I mix it up here and there πŸ™‚ Watercolor: The untamed medium.

You’ll definitely want to hop over to the MFT Blog to see everything that Susan wrote up today. That’s where the real schooling comes in πŸ˜‰

hawkins_jill_miss you_00_wmHope you can check out all the surely fun projects. I can’t wait!! πŸ™‚ The My Favorite Things blog is sure to have lots of good stuff this week.

photoSketch Challenge #232 on My Favorite Things Challenge & Inspiration is rockin’ out today. You know this team made fabulous, so be sure to go SEE them all!

Here is this week’s sketch:MFT_WSC_232Here’s my take: It’s a wee bit twisted up. It happens πŸ™‚

hawkins_jill_have a spiffy_wmI think I’d inlay these circles if I made this again though ;). Go figure.

hawkins_jill_have a spiffy_00_wmI warned about the Abstract Cover Up! I’m going to have to hide it for awhile πŸ™‚

I likely won’t get an extra card made each week this month, but I managed for today. It’s a simple one, but oh so fun! And don’t these kind always take awhile anyway? Ha πŸ™‚hawkins_jill_miss you0_wmThese Happy Pandas are fun little guys to send in the mail. πŸ™‚

Sweet Sunday Sketch: #272

Hope your weekend has gone swimmingly! It’s time for the Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge!! #272!

Here’s the sketch for this week:

Here is my card for the week:

hawkins_jill_you're my person_wmOh Happy Panda! πŸ™‚ This font is a favorite of mine too. Fabulous set!

hawkins_jill_you're my person_00_wm

These Stitched Basic Edges get a lot of use. Endless versatility.

I stamped this sentiment using the coveted MISTI tool. I saved up for many a months and finally gave in to ordering one. (No help from this group of Sweet Sunday Stampers to resist it! Enablers. Geesh. πŸ˜‰ ) I haven’t used it but this once (so far), and I must say for the ability to stamp this sentiment repeatedly, making it flawlessly solid, I like it a lot. πŸ˜‰

Be sure to check out the Sweet Sunday Sketch Blog for all the different takes! I love all the diversity of styles each week. These ladies are oh so fun! πŸ™‚

This card was made with the following supplies by My Favorite Things: (Fabulous=Electric Red)
