Summer School!

Happy Summer! My friend Jen suggested we get our Summer School on and participate in the MFT Summer School series. I thought it was a great idea and I was game, as I always love a challenge! ๐Ÿ™‚You can Join in the fun HERE. I think there is still several days left to participate. You don’t have to do them all, by any means.

I dug into my MFT archives of well used stamps and dies and pulled out some for these projects. I had fun making them all and enjoyed the challenges. On with the cards, yes?!

For this card, I used one of my favorite Birdie Brown stamps off all time from the Polynesian Paradise set. I also used the Stripes Cover Up and the Four Way Chevron Cover up (embossed). I inlaid the strips to create subtle texture for the white space. White space rules! ๐Ÿ™‚

Primary Colors–Red, Yellow and Blue…

For this card, I used the London Mouse set and the Amazing set for the sentiment. Added some Kuretake watercolors for the background and fussy cut the mice. out. I thought this turned out fun!

I love repetition, but even more, I enjoy simplicity. It’s always hard to know if something is too simple or just enough. Especially after you’ve been looking at too long. LOL! My rule of thumb: Walk away! If you’re debating, it’s usually best to walk away. ๐Ÿ™‚

The black and white of these pandas is perfection for this. The biggest debate was what color to make the sign! ๐Ÿ˜‰ This set is called Happy Pandas and the dies are the old school version (they are solid and not cut out) which was funny to go back and figure out again. ๐Ÿ˜‰

For Complementary Colors, I chose to go with Green and “Red”, aka, Pink. ๐Ÿ™‚

This dino is from the set You’re Rawr-some! Love that sentiment! ๐Ÿ™‚ I watercolored the dino with my Kuretake watercolors (a bit too solidly for my taste). Still not sure I like this look, but it’s good to try something different once in awhile, right?

For this one, I went with these cutie Koalas colored with Copic Markers! Back to my comfort zone. ๐Ÿ˜‰

This set is called Cuddly Koalas. I also used the Chunky Herringbone stencil, Stitched Rectangle Frame and Grassy Field die. Cute cute!

To finish these, I added some stitching to each. My Panda card had some Pretty Pink Posh Sparkling Clear confetti bits added.

Big thanks to my friend Jen for suggesting we do this (Jen’s are sure to be showstoppers!!) and thanks to you for stopping by!

Take care– Jill ๐Ÿ™‚

Monstrous Birthday

Here’s my take on MFT Sketch Challenge #316 from the MFT Card Challenges blog!photoBirthday parties means birthday cards ahead! ๐Ÿ™‚

hawkins_jill_monster_00_wm

My son would paint the world orange if he could, so I always try to work in his requested color. ๐Ÿ™‚ This is a pretty direct take on the sketch, except that I moved the sentiment up. I simply stamped and die cut everything. I then used some orange caution washi strip down the side. I mounted it all up on foam tape for a little something! ๐Ÿ™‚hawkins_jill_monster_wm

These monsters get a workout around here! ๐Ÿ™‚

Otterly Great

Here’s my take on MFT Sketch Challenge #315 and MFT Color Challenge #61!photoI have surprised myself by getting in another Challenge entry! I had to use these otters though! Because: Cutie otters and puns! ๐Ÿ™‚

hawkins_jill_otter-bday_00_wm

I masked and stamped this cutie, colored with Copic markers, and then fussy cut the edge, so he would hang off a little bit. I adhered the colors of the challenge, and did a little fussy/trickery die cutting to pull the whole thing together. ๐Ÿ˜‰hawkins_jill_otter-bday_wm

Just a little something different to try. ๐Ÿ™‚

Supplies from My Favorite Things, including the new BB Otterly Love You. So stinkin’ cute!

Have a great week!

Hugs!

Here’s my take on MFT Sketch Challenge #314 and MFT Color Challenge #60!

photo I arrived home late from a school meeting last night, but still wanted to make something. Our household has been under the weather, and I was behind on creating anything! Ahhh! ๐Ÿ™‚

I was itching to inlay something, and of course, the strips of card stock is always a fave of mine to do!

hawkins_jill_hugs_00_wm

I wasn’t sure how it would look with the strips on an angle, but I like it! It’s getting mailed today!hawkins_jill_hugs_wm

I rotated the sketch, so the HUGS is the big rectangle, and the nod to the then vertical piece, is my stitching. I couldn’t decide what to do for that element, but I think the stitching turned out fun, albeit a little off from where I intended. Ha! I held my breath as I started stitching, and as I did that little piece at the bottom. I wanted them aligned, and I wasn’t sure where my needle left off! Oh silliness ๐Ÿ™‚

Anywho, there you have it! Thanks for stopping by!

Eye Like You

Here’s my take on MFT Sketch Challenge #311. Always a delight to have a good read over at the MFT Card Challenges blog!photo

I wanted to play along, and but had to be expeditious! Even making just the quickest of cards, is such a great way to end the day!hawkins_jill_eye-like-you hawkins_jill_eye-like-you_00_wmI just masked some circles for these little guys, and then did some quick stamping. This is a set that will get inked often for kiddo’s birthday parties! ๐Ÿ™‚

hawkins_jill_lean_00_wm hawkins_jill_lean_wm

This card ended up pretty simple in the end and nothing like I sat down to do. I always think that’s funny! ๐Ÿ™‚

I die cut both the die cuts I used, and I think the result was good! ๐Ÿ™‚ My stitching went a little wrong, but I just added more to make it work. Ha!

MFT Challenges, Another Twofer

Here’s my take on MFT Sketch Challenge #308 and Color Challenge #56! My Favorite Things Challenge & Inspiration Blog <<<<<<.photo Once again, I’m able to combine the two!

hawkins_jill_dinomiteThis little dino from You’re Rawr-some, is a little cutie! I especially love the T-Rex and his sentiment. I can’t wait to use him next! ๐Ÿ™‚ I used Zig Clean Color pens to watercolor her, and Distress ink for the background I masked off.hawkins_jill_dinomite_00I wanted to use this color combo, but was thinking Holiday card. Aren’t we all?! <3! But then, I took a right turn and made a chicky dino card instead. There is some sparkle (that never photographs) in the tree/plant/hearts, that in person, adds just the right touch.ย  Iย  had to cut off the grass I was originally using for the sentiment. It was too *all up in the dino’s grill*. LOL ๐Ÿ™‚

MFT Challenges

Here’s my take on MFT Sketch Challenge #305 and Color Challenge #56! My Favorite Things Challenge & Inspiration Blog.photo

Thought it would be fun to the combine the two!

I am a fan of the funky Fuse Green. ๐Ÿ™‚  Basically I die cut, stamped, and scored this card base, putting it all together with foam tape. I changed the oval to a circle, only because I like circles better! Ha!!

Hedgehugs | MFT Sketch 302

Here’s my take on MFT Sketch Challenge #302! My Favorite Things Challenge & Inspiration Blog! Wow, I barely missed a few MFT Sketch Challenges in over a 1.5 years, and then I missed a lot of them! Ah, Life. โค ๐Ÿ˜‰photoI just enjoyed an awesome crafty weekend full of laughs, and hugs, and craftiness! I am having a hard time adjusting back to reality. ๐Ÿ™‚ To hug your crafty friends in person is priceless, and then I met so many new friends too. Just AWESOME and so heartwarming! โค

Anywho, they were all generous to share their stamps, so I borrowed these, and made this cutie card. ๐Ÿ™‚

hawkins_jill_hedgehugs_wmThis little guy! Too fun! ๐Ÿ™‚

hawkins_jill_hedgehugs_00_wmI used Copic markers to color him, and kept the rest pretty clean and simple.

hello

I remember watching the MFT Superstar Design contest last year and thought how much fun it looked to participate. I was excited to see year two of the contest this year. As time goes, well, I’m barely sneaking one in, but here it is!

PrintI do love a colorful card! ๐Ÿ™‚

hawkins_jill_hello-bright_00_wmSome good ol’ die cutting of the die cut. Good times. ๐Ÿ™‚hawkins_jill_hello-bright_wmFor this, I first die cut the Four Way Chevron and inlaid that. Then I cut that panel with the Chunky Chevron Cover Up. I put down the Chunky Chevron panel and glued on all the Chevron bits in and removed it. The letters are the HIgh Rise Alphabet. (A long time fave!) I added a little stitching to finish it off, and whammo, done! ๐Ÿ™‚

I admittedly almost binned this one, because it seemed too busy. But in the end, I kept going, and eventually warmed to it a bit. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m going to hop over there and check out some of the entries soon! I love a good contest–so much talent! ๐Ÿ™‚ Check it all out HERE.

Thanks for stopping by!
