MFT Sketch #239

photoMFT Sketch Challenge #239 on My Favorite Things Challenge & Inspiration is starting TODAY!

Here is this week’s sketch:MFT_WSC_239This is my card for the week:

hawkins_jill_hope your day_00_wmI so enjoy this little sunny dude! 🙂 The Abstract stencil and background…well, I’ve mentioned my adoration of these many-a-times too! I stamped and embossed the Build-able Blooms for the sun. It ended up a little more subtle than intended, but, alas 🙂

hawkins_jill_hope your day_wmI squeaked in a second card. This one was made in probably five different sit-downs, so it feels a bit disjointed. But, meh, I think it’s kinda fun still 🙂

hawkins_jill_don't know_wm…and I think my stitching went a bit awry 🙂

Sweet Sunday Sketch: #279

Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge!! #279! Oh yea! 🙂

Here’s this week’s sketch:

Here is my card for the week:

hawkins_jill_ForYoutoo_wmI blended on some Grout Gray ink at the last-minute on the floral layer. I just thought it was too stark ;). I used the sketch upside down and then *tucked in* most of the banner. 🙂

MFT Color Challenge #26!

MFT_ColorChallenge_PaintBook_26It’s the 4th Thursday of the month and BAM! Color Challenge #26 on the My Favorite Things Challenge & Inspiration blog.

Here’s my card for this Color Challenge:

hawkins_jill_love you_wmI had some technical difficulties (*cough cough*) with these colors. Do note that the color above is Steel Grey–that is the darker grey. LOL. One of my favorites! 🙂 I combined them together for some striped die cutting and hit it up with the Abstract Background! Another fave! 🙂

hawkins_jill_love you_00_wmI had to make a second card, because the first thing I thought of when I saw these colors was WATERMELON! We go through 1-3 of those a week in our house.

Here it is:

hawkins_jill_enjoy1_wmSummer! I made the watermelon seeds with the negative of the Blueprints 26 little balloon bow. 😉hawkins_jill_enjoy1_00_wm(Please excuse the bazarro lines in the photo above. Something wacky there?)

Here is this week’s sketch:MFT_WSC_238This is my card for the week:

hawkins_jill_you're my person_wmI have been long awaiting to use this stamp set. It’s crazy versatile! 🙂 Big fan of that. I have also been trying to challenge myself. This week was One Layer cards. Fun–and wow, I save on card stock! Haaaaa!  🙂 Note to self: Stamp hybrid inks first, sentiment on top of everything. Doh. :/

hawkins_jill_you're my person_00_wmOne more note: This week on the MFT Blog, there is collaboration with Xyron! Check out my post from Monday HERE.

Xyron sticks to MFT

PrintIt’s the beginning of some special fun posts on the My Favorite Things Blog this week. My Favorite Things meets Xyron!

I have looooong had a Xyron Sticker Maker. It was probably one of the first crafty tools I owned, so I’ve been a fan of Xyron’s stickiness for many years 😉

Here is the project I made for this collaboration:hawkins_jill_five_wmThe most important thing when making an inlaid card is adhesive–and LOTS of it. For this I used the Xyron Mega Runner. It worked famously for laying down bulk adhesive and I was pret-ty excited! I go through a lot of adhesive, but this Mega Runner holds so much, I have yet to come close to needing a refill…and I’ve been using this since the lovely folks at Xyron sent it to me! Loving it for sure!! 🙂

hawkins_jill_five_under_wmThe ‘5’ comes off the card, and using the Xyron Magnet Tape, it becomes a magnet! How awesome is that!? I just love that the card serves double duty and the recipient can use the 5 on their fridge, or wherever 🙂 But I also wanted the card to have its own life and not be naked, so I just inlaid another 5, slightly dressed up too :).

hawkins_jill_five_magnetback_wmThe Xyron Magnet Tape is just like a roll of basic tape. One side is sticky and you just pull it out, tear it off on the teeth, and stick! Voila! Easy peasy! 🙂

hawkins_jill_five_magnet_wmHere are a couple quick photos I snapped while making my card. The first one shows how I laid out the pieces. Right after this photo, I completely covered the white typing paper with the Mega Runner adhesive. That is the key to inlaid die cutting. Do not cut corners on this because inevitably, that is the part that will pop off. Ask me how I know 😉hawkins_jill_five_progressThis next photo shows you how the pieces are all well stuck and then die cut again into a nice tidy panel 🙂

hawkins_jill_five_progress_wmIt’s so nice to not use half a roll of your runner on one card! This Mega Runner is a powerhouse. And look at those Blueprint 26 Balloons….ahhhh 🙂

The My Favorite Things blog today is where you can read all about this fun week! You will also be delighted with more cards by two seriously talented MFT Team members: Donna Mikasa and Stephanie Klauck! 🙂 I can’t wait to see their projects myself! These ladies never disappoint 🙂

Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge!! #278! 🙂

Here’s this week’s sketch:

Here is my card for the week: ONE layer! Whoot! 🙂

hawkins_jill_bestest wishes bal_wmI used MFT’s new  Birthday Wishes & Balloons. I am so glad I was able to make a one layer card! I like to matte things, so I had to make myself stop! 🙂 The Primitive White card stock gives the card some warmth.

MFT Sketch #237 AND Summer School!

photoMFT Sketch Challenge #237 on My Favorite Things Challenge & Inspiration is starting today. In July here, we have Kalyn Kepner with us! Whoot!

Here is this week’s sketch:
MFT_WSC_237:This is my card for the week:

hawkins_jill_make a wish_wmI cannot get enough Abstraction! 🙂 Now it is in stamp and stencil form! LOVE.

hawkins_jill_make a wish_00_wmI used watercolors to paint the whole panel. It probably would have gone faster if I had done a couple triangles at once with the same color. But no. Did one. At. A. Time. It isn’t perfect, but I don’t think watercolor should be? I like things crisp, so this was good to do something different.

Bonus: Today is the 3rd day of MFT Summer School!

PrintBe sure to head over to the MFT Blog to read the lesson and link up to the other cards the MFT design team made. 🙂

Today is all about: Primary! Primary colors: Red, Yellow and Blue.

Print I took a little tweek on the red. 🙂

MFT Summer School: Complementary

PrintDay TWO of fun on the MFT Blog! MFT Summer School: Session Two! Sharpen your pencils! 🙂

Today’s lesson:PrintComplementary sometimes just happens, but it is a quick way to pick your colors if you get stuck. They are opposite colors on the color wheel…such as yellow/purple, orange/blue, red/green… You’ll definitely want to hop over to the MFT Blog to see what Susan wrote up for today’s lesson. That’s where the real schooling is 😉

There is also a great download for your school notebook 😉

Here’s my card:

hawkins_jill_you're the coolest_wmThis was a very happy accident. I wasn’t making this card! I was going to edge a piece of card stock with this Notebook Edge die:

As I did, I got this negative piece and thought it was TOO fun to just leave in the scrap pile…so these little strips happened instead. Hence this card.

hawkins_jill_you're the coolest__00_wmThis reminds me so much of that pom-pom fringe that was used to often in the 70’s/80’s? I remember pink curtains somewhere in my world that had that pom-pom fringe. Awesome. 🙂 Stretching those supplies! Hooray! 🙂

Hope you can check out all the surely fun projects today too 🙂 The My Favorite Things blog is where to hop to!
